MONKEY RIVER & MANATEES
AN EASY-GOING ADVENTURE
Descripción del Tour
Monkey River Town is a village in the north of the Toledo District of Belize. It is on the Caribbean Sea on the southern shore of the mouth of Belize's Monkey River. In 2011 the estimated population was 200 people. The village is one of the last purely Creole settlements in Belize, and many traditional practices are still carried out, such as cooking over the "fyah haat" (fire hearth).
Enjoy a leisure boat ride up the beautiful winding river looking at the many species of birds and reptiles like Iguanas and even the illusive Crocodiles. You will stop at various places along the river to look at Bats and turtles taking in the sun. It’s time to exit the boat for a short hike to get a close look at the troops of howler Monkeys.
It’s now time to enjoy a local lunch in this sleepy little village before making your back to Placencia and make a stop to look for the Manatees. Get your cameras out and be on the ready they are not up for long periods to take in the fresh air.
